My wife had the most unbelievable experience trying to close a Synovus checking account a couple of months ago. In the beginning she had gone through a drive-thru carwash. The attendant scanned her debit card and said, "for $21.99 per month, you can have unlimited carwashes". At that time she was going to Birmingham 4-6 times per month, but that changed. Only traveling to B'ham once or twice a month, the carwash was no longer a bargain. She called the bank to remove the withdrawal and was told she'd have to cancel the account as the bank could not simply stop the withdrawal. So, after a ton of BS, four more stalling tactics, and two trips to a branch in person, she cancelled the account. The whole process was surreal.

Dude, close that account. Open a Navy Credit union account or a USAA account.
He seems amazed, like he's never tried to get his money out of the bank before. Seriously?
