Breaking Hearts In Florida

So where do I begin? Last weekend I was not feeling quite right with fatigue and chest discomfort. It was not getting any better by Monday and a little voice in my head said go to the hospital now. I was not in severe pain just discomfort, but I listened to that voice. Anyone believe in divine intervention? So I drove south to Jupiter Medical Center and into the ER. I advised the gal behind the desk that I was having chest pain and discomfort. They performed an EKG on me and then whammo! The nurses were ripping my clothes off and tossing me on a gurney. Hell, I thought it was the early 80's at the Jersey shore all over again. Leggett's Sand Bar or the Osprey anyone? Right into the operating room I go. The doctors go to work and insert a stent in a major rear artery of my heart. I survived the operation and was moved to ICU. There was a 99% blockage in that artery which was torn as well, and I suffered a major heart attack. If I did not come in when I did I would have been dead within hours the doctor told me. Spent 3 days in the hospital  and came home yesterday. Feeling good and healing up. On a plethora of meds now. Dealing with Walgreens almost gave me a second heart attack. Laying low for now but will be back in the future. The man upstairs was not ready for me yet. Guess he has more work for me to do. Stay well everyone.

chuckle... dude.. I get it 100%... take care of you!

Been there, done that. Mine was just about 4 years ago and I was way out in the woods when it happened. Managed to get out of the woods and back to a fire hall. Taken to ER right way and up to the cath lab for a stent too.

Best of luck. You'll be back at it in no time.

Well done: you didn't do the usual bloke thing. You know, the "ah, it's just indigestion, it'll pass" thing.

Now, best wishes from sunny(?)England, do as you're told and, as an aside, keep up the good work!

I can relate. Worked all morning, felt fine, cooking dinner and bam. Sweats, short of breath, chest tightness. Hit the ER, they hooked up the EKG, and said the helicopter will be here in 19 minutes. Never been in a hospital, ran a 5K the month before. Six stents, fives days in ICU and now I have a defibrillator implant. Getting old is easy, being old is tough. Hang in there, and be ready for some pharma sticker shock

Good call on self preservation. Not everyone would recognize the warnings.
Keep after your meds, and do everything the doc suggests, and you should be OK.

I was wondering why you were absent for a while. Glad you’re doing good and recovering, thank God. Walgreens does suck. Too bad a bunch of nurses ripping your shirt off didn’t come with a more positive end result, But then again, I guess it was.

May your recovery be quick, your pain be gone and your wit be lasting.

"Devine Intervention Indeed. Stay with us." From on high, Andy was looking out for him?
Seriously, best wishes, CNW. Sound like it wasn't quite check-out time. May it be long before it comes.

Well just look at YOU getting all touchy with the nurse types.
Very best on a complete recovery, and yes to the little voice; any time I've ignored that voice has been a mistake.
Diet mods? No sugar or carbs?
Let me know how to help.

Doesn't have to be a killer anymore

Stay well and take care

So it wasn't from the grilled chees sammich and raw sex and the bacon and meat and cheese other sammich from June 3 that almost did you in? An aorta arch or descending tear is serious as you can be. Very glad you listened to that little voice, it knows better than you at times. Very grateful you are fixed up and on the mend. Listen to your cardiac doc and you may live 10 or 20 years more. Certainly hope you keep blogging, where do you think I get my memes from...

Yikes but it could have been worse. A buddy of mine was in the same pickle some time back, had the work done on the spot and made another thirty years before something else got him. Stick around, Chief. God and your little bunch of malcontent followers aren't done with you wet.

Oh, sure, skate will ya!

I'll put in a prayer for you. Or... several a day for a while. If you need a few dollars? I would toss some in and send some. You have to figure out how to let me know. Won't be a thousand, could do a couple hundred if you need it.

Good call Guido.

Welcome back from the brink, Chief, yes divine intervention. You listened and acted.

To avoid a repeat, shop your prescription prices even with private pharmacies. Also, location of a chain pharmacy dictates what the market bears in that area, shop the small town over from you.

St. Vincint de Paul (Catholic org) runs free pharmacies in states which permit the re-issuance of donated prescription drugs. (They don't accept or dispense painkillers or any form of addictives). Does your state allow it for less fortunate? There may be other organizations with free pharmacies.

Have you already had the weirdest dreams/nightmares as the last of the hospital drugs come out of your system? Do you flinch everytime there's a weird little pain and think, "Is this something I should tell someone about or is this part of the healing and I'll look like a fool?

Rest easy. You already know what a heart attack feels like. Do check it out if you have a big "discomfort". If aspirin or nitro calms it, you are in trouble...go immediately to E.R.
God Bless you and welcome back!

Wow, I am glad you listened. I am also thankful you were able to get some competent medical assistance. Rest and take the time to heal. Then cardio rehab for sure. All muscles last longer when they are properly exercised.
