These were advertising mascots of some gas station chain back in the 60's, maybe Cities Service?

You see one in the opening credits of the Soprano's TV show, that one is on Rt 1 and 9 in Secaucus NY, there is still another today on Rt 9A at the entrance to Rt 287 West in Elmsford, NY. Those are green and yellow, never seen one red and blue. They appear to be hollow fiberglass.

Anyone know the manufacturer or the story behind them? How many were made? Any others standing today?
