Veterans aren’t happy with a recent op-ed by the Washington Post, which charged that the Apache, Comanche, Chinook, Lakota, Cheyenne and Kiowa military vehicles were a “greater symbolic injustice” than the NFL’s Washington Redskins’ name.
“Even if the NFL and Redskins brass come to their senses and rename the team, a greater symbolic injustice would continue to afflict Indians — an injustice perpetuated not by a football club but by our federal government,” Simon Waxman of the Boston Review wrote for the Post on Thursday.

(Reuters) - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's controversial plan to keep large sugary drinks out of restaurantsand other eateries was rejected by a state appeals court on Tuesday, which said he had overstepped his authority in trying to impose the ban.
The law, which would have prohibited those businesses from selling sodas and other sugary beverages larger than 16 ounces (473 ml), "violated the state principle of separation of powers," the First Department of the state Supreme Court's Appellate Division said.
The decision, upholding a lower court ruling in March that struck down the law, dealt a blow to Bloomberg's attempt to advance the pioneering regulation as a way to combat obesity. Beverage makers and business groups, however, challenged it in court, arguing that the mayoral-appointed health board had gone too far when it approved the law. READ MORE

A NJ Transit train struck a Volvo in Clifton on Wednesday after a woman — misdirected by her GPS— drove and got stuck on the tracks, agency officials said.
Jill Bacharach, 46, of Little Falls, drove into a construction area near River Road and Route 3, tried to drive over train tracks, became stuck and got out of her car, said New Jersey Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder. At 10:30 p.m., the engineer of a Port Jervis-bound train spotted the car, but he was unable to stop before striking the vehicle, Snyder said.
No one was injured in the crash, but Bacharach's vehicle was totaled. NJ Transit is still assessing the extent of the damage caused to the train. Approximately 300 customers were on the train at the time of the collision and were delayed for an hour and a half before a replacement train picked them up, Snyder said.
A preliminary investigation of the incident indicates that Bacharach followed her GPS into a construction area about half a mile east of the Delawanna train station in Clifton, Snyder said.
"It's not easy to access this area," Snyder said. "It’s a construction zone and a railroad right of way." Bacharach was issued a summons for reckless driving.

Conservatives should be disabused of any notion that the recent revocation of the Redskins’ trademark by the US Patent Office had anything at all to do with the disparagement of Native Americans, real or perceived.
On the contrary, the exercise in political correctness is not about aggrieved Native Americans. It’s about the power to redistribute wealth and to eliminate private property. Essentially, the Left has declared that no person’s or company’s trademark (or patent) is safe. Get together a group of lawyers who are experts in victimization and who have access to some aggrieved group, find a trademark name -- or even an invention -- offensive and go at it. Now everyone can have a chunk of the Redskins franchise. It’s been equitably redistributed among the masses -- if any of the proletariat actually wants to risk being called “racist.”
It should be noted the real issue for the Left is not that the Redskins trademark is egregiously offensive. The real issue is about the power to control any entity that will not adhere to the current politically correct commandments. It is about targeting anyone who has bad, bad thoughts. For instance, companies with perfectly innocuous trademark names like Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby have as their CEOs people who think, according to liberals, “disparaging thoughts.” Therefore, those companies also should be driven out of business and their CEOs turned out to beg on the streets or forced to enter thought reform classes. Sorry to be crude, but for all intents and purposes, America is currently the victim of a national rape, figuratively speaking – what our nation is experiencing on the southern border is a corporate violation. Moreover, being implanted in the womb of what was once a sovereign nation complete with boundaries and laws is an uninvited presence that, if it were a fetus, pro-choicers would heartily applaud terminating.
Instead, liberal pundits and politicians alike contend that America should never turn children in need away. That’s why bleeding-heart types are now arguing that our arms need to open even wider to welcome in as many illegal children from the poverty-stricken nations of Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
What doesn’t make sense is the contradiction of this opinion when compared to the standard liberal pro-abortion mindset that maintains that a life of abject poverty is far worse than death, and being unwanted justifies obliterating untold numbers of unborn human beings.
